Healthcare
I believe that rural patients deserve affordable healthcare close to home. I stood up for healthcare as a leader in Save Our Hospital. Rural patients are not getting the healthcare they need.
As your state senator:
I will fight to lower the cost of healthcare for rural Minnesotans.
I will work to lower the cost of prescription drugs.
I will fight for rural healthcare that is close to home.
Education
I believe that rural public schools deserve to be fairly funded by the state. I have seen the challenges that rural school districts face as a special education teacher and school board member.
As your state senator:
I will stand against unfunded mandates.
I will work for full state funding of our public schools.
Economic Development
I believe workers and small businesses are the heart of our community. I have seen the struggles employers and workers face as a school board member and local union president.
As your state senator:
I will listen to small business owners.
I will support affordable daycare and housing.
I will support union organizing, fair wages and paid time off.
Civil Rights and Freedom
I believe that it is the responsibility of our state to protect our civil rights and freedoms. I am a member of the Albert Lea Human Rights Commission. It is more important than ever for Minnesota to protect our rights.
As your state senator:
I will fight for the rights of everyone in our communities.
Prevent, Detect and Combat Fraud
I believe that Minnesotans deserve to have their tax dollars spent wisely. Most Minnesotans are angry that their tax dollars were stolen, and so am I.
As your state senator:
I will fight to make sure our taxes are going where they are supposed to: helping Minnesotans.
I will work to prevent and detect fraud.
I will work to increase penalties for those trying to steal from our state.
Taxes
I believe that Minnesotans should be able to afford their property taxes and that big businesses and the super wealthy pay their fair share. Across my district, voters tell me over and over that property taxes are too high.
As your state senator:
I will fight for full state funding for our public schools
I will work to increase local government aid to our cities and counties.
I will work for fair home and business assessments that reflect the correct value of the property.
I will advocate for limits on yearly property tax increases.
I will work so that big business and the super wealthy pay their fair share.
Healthy Land, Air and Water
I believe that Minnesotans deserve healthy soil, air and water. In rural Minnesota, we enjoy getting out in nature. The state needs to protect our soil, air and water.
As your state senator:
I will work to fund our wastewater treatment plants.
I will fight to protect the Boundary Waters.
I will push the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency to increase the number of air quality monitors in rural areas.
I will listen to and work with our farmers.
Seniors and Veterans
I believe that veterans and seniors deserve dignity and respect. As my parents age, I want them to have choices in their care. I have spoken to seniors and veterans who shared with me that it is difficult to afford life and get the services they need.
As your state senator:
I will listen to the needs of our veterans and seniors.
I will fight for veterans and seniors to have the healthcare and services they need.
I will work to increase access to in-home care, assisted living and nursing homes in rural communities.
